Blog it forward, baaaaaaaaaaaayybeeeeeeee....

Things that have happened in this country in the past week or so leave me wondering if we Americans have any knowledge of what it means to be nice to other people.

You don't have to like every person you encounter, you don't even have to fake that you do, but showing a little common courtesy or at the very least, shutting your pie hole if you don't have anything nice to say, is not really all that hard.

Some of the best advice I got during my divorce was:

"Sometimes the winner is the one that walked away from the battle."

I'm a big believer in the idea that nine times out of ten you will find much more peace and joy if you don't waste your time and energy engaging in witless battles.

Don't like someone? Great. Stop spending time with them.

Don't agree with someone? Great. Stop talking to them.

It seems really easy to me but maybe I am in the minority. One thing I do know about my Kazoofus friends and family though is that WE are a pretty brilliant bunch of people. WE have good hearts, bright ideas, common sense and plenty of love to spread.

So in the spirit of breaking the current cycle of assholetry in this country I now present (stolen from my buddy Buzz)...

BLOG IT FORWARD

Don't know the rules? No problem. This is easy. All you have to do is either on your own blog or in the comments here say something nice about someone. It could be someone in your every day life, someone from your family, someone you know online or a complete stranger. I don't care who you pick - oh hell - pick MANY someones if you want. Just say something nice about somebody.

Easy, no?

My Blog it Foward picks:

  1. My mom for her great sense of humor and ability to remain level-headed regardless of the circumstances. Her grace under fire has inspired me for as long as I can remember.
  2. My Contractor for tolerating me fucking around in areas of my house that are under construction when I shouldn't be.
  3. Keith (former blogger) for being a solid and constant source of laughter and perspective for me.
  4. My cyber-parents Billy and Stacey for all the years they listened to me cry into the phone about my divorce. They never cease to amaze me with their never-ending patience, love, humor and support.
  5. Erica - the first blogger I ever met live and in person. She has more common sense and intelligence than most people I know that are twice her age. She is balanced, open-minded, upbeat and has the BEST LAUGH EVER!
  6. My kids for being silly sources of inspiration. They tag my inner child each and every day.

You're it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I occasionally get the urge to fire up the web server again, and find out what I've gotta change for BellSouth (AT&T now) ADSL to let it work. In the meantime, I'm terribly honored and flattered to be included in your list. Dog bless you!
